14 May 10 Lifes Profit & Loss Statement: Happiness is the Bottom Line

Those of us who are economy geeks know that every investment has an alternate cost: time you spend working for the man for $100/hour could be spent working on an entrepreneurial product that may have even larger earnings potential. For a Freelancer time spent on the beach is money lost.
Thinking in terms of alternate costs is usually a crass business - it’s about dollars and cents, pounds and pennies. To me, this is the wrong way of viewing things. It’s true regardless of what you do in your life, there will be things you have to do that you don’t particularly enjoy.
But to me all costs are paid in time, and it is used to buy things, it might be money, learning new things, maintaining your fitness, spending time with people you love, kicking back and doing something you enjoy. The Bottom Line in this Profit & Loss statement is not time, it’s not money, it’s your happiness.
How much happiness are you able to extract out of your time on this earth? How empowered are you to mix your time in an optimal way to do the things you most want?
Money, beyond a certain point is worthless. Would you rather work your ass off for 14 hours a day until you die of a heart attack at 48 while making $500000 a year, or would you rather live a life filled with happiness and extraordinary experiences the way you want it for $50000 a year?
The choice for me is simple.
